Extreme H Awarded prestigious FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation

London, 2 March 2026: Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen-powered motorsport, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest level of recognition within the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme. This achievement reinforces the FIA Extreme H World Cup’s position at the forefront of zero-emission racing and sustainable innovation, recognising the robustness of its environmental governance, management systems, and continuous improvement approach.

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme supports motorsport and mobility organisations worldwide in measuring, managing, and continually improving their environmental performance, ensuring the implementation of internationally recognised best-practice environmental management processes across operations, events, and supply chains.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme H, said: “Securing the FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation is an incredibly proud moment for everyone at Extreme H. Our mission has always been to prove that high-performance racing and environmental responsibility can, and must, go hand-in-hand.”

Central to Extreme H’s achievement is its comprehensive Event Sustainability Management System, built around three strategic themes; Extreme Action, Extreme Impact, and Responsibly Extreme. These guide the championship’s approach to operational sustainability, environmental stewardship, and long-term positive legacy in the globally-spanning regions where it races.

A purpose-built framework diffuses these pillars through key identified objectives, targets and actions, resulting in a set of key outcomes which form the World Cup’s rigorous environmental standards, applicable across all race locations and day-to-day operations. The framework, specific to Extreme H’s unique operating model, ensures every race not only adheres to but leads the way in setting global standards of sustainability.

Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Sustainability, said: “Extreme H achieving the highest level of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is a significant milestone for the category and demonstrates how high-performance competition can also set the benchmark for sustainability. Innovative events like the FIA Extreme H World Cup support the FIA’s commitment to accelerating climate action, fostering alternative energy solutions and sustainable technologies across global motor sport. It is testament to the global community of motorsport and their commitment to meaningful change.”

This milestone follows years of close collaboration between Extreme H and My Stadium, a strategic sustainability consultancy that has been an integral partner since the event’s inception. Throughout the nineteen races that have taken place during the relationship, My Stadium has played a pivotal role in shaping Extreme H's world-leading Event Sustainability Management System, providing expert guidance on best practices across both daily & event operations at each globally-spanning race. Their deep-rooted involvement has ensured that sustainability is not just a goal, but a fundamental pillar and driving force of the World Cup’s mission, resulting in its built-for-purpose and globally leading sustainability strategy.

Extreme H’s sustainability mission is spearheaded by the Pioneer 25, a hydrogen-powered race vehicle designed to demonstrate the viability of hydrogen fuel-cell technology across some of the world’s most demanding off-road conditions. Backed by a rigorous safety testing programme and subsequently multiple racing teams successfully pushing it to its limits, the Extreme H races are actively accelerating the development of zero-emission automotive technologies and paving the way for the future of the transport industry.

Extreme H races serve as a high-performance “living laboratory” both on and off the track, bringing together leaders in clean-energy generation to create a bespoke hydrogen fuel-cell microgrid capable of powering the race paddock without reliance on traditional generators. Successfully validated during deployment at the inaugural event held Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia, the system demonstrates how hydrogen-based energy solutions can support major event infrastructure, offering a scalable model for reducing event-related emissions in remote and temporary locations.

With the FIA Three-Star rating confirming that Extreme H’s environmental management systems meet the highest standards, the championship will continue to push the boundaries of sustainable motorsport innovation. By demonstrating how hydrogen can support both elite competition and demanding event operations, Extreme H aims to provide a practical blueprint for accelerating decarbonisation across the wider mobility and events sectors, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for technological progress and environmental transition.
