Jenson Button’s JBX Confirmed for FIA Extreme H World Cup

London, September 25, 2025: Extreme E and FIA Extreme H proudly reveal the return of JBX to compete in the ‘Final Lap’ race for Extreme E and to be a part of the official start of Extreme H. JBX will be competing with Tommi Hallman alongside Christine Giampaoli Zonca.
Founded in 2021 by 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button, JBX, originally launched as JBXE, quickly made its mark on the world stage. In its debut season, the team secured four podiums and third place overall in the inaugural Extreme E championship, combining elite sporting pedigree with the series’ mission to advance sustainable motorsport.
Joining the team is Team Monaco which is further demonstrating its commitment to sustainability in sport by bolstering JBX. Team Monaco was started in July 2025 by Co-Founders Maxime Nocher, 11 times World Kite Surfing champion, and Chris Taylor, an early investor in Formula E. The partnership with JBX is a precursor to a planned Team Monaco entry into Extreme H in 2026.
With its reputation for adaptability and ambition, JBX Powered by Team Monaco is ready to embrace the challenges of hydrogen-powered motorsport as it expands into the FIA Extreme H World Cup.
Jenson Button, Founder of JBX Powered by Team Monaco, said: “I’m really pleased for the JBX team to remain a part of the series as it breaks new ground into the hydrogen era and to be a part of the FIA Extreme H World Cup. The team has competed in every round of Extreme E since the series began so to continue with this project into its new phase is super exciting and what a fantastic venue to kick things off in Saudi Arabia.
“I would also like to extend a warm welcome to both Tommi and Christine to the JBX team and look forward to seeing how they get on in a few weeks time in Qiddiya”
Chris Taylor, Co-Founder and Chair of Team Monaco, said: “Team Monaco is delighted and honoured to be able to partner with JBX for the launch event of the Extreme H car. This reinforces the commitment from Team Monaco to push the need for sustainability in all areas of sport.
“The event will bring media attention to a vital new initiative and broaden public awareness of the benefits of Hydrogen. Team Monaco thanks Extreme H for setting up this opportunity and the PIF for its valuable support on this initiative.”
One of rallycross' most promising talents, Hallman won the 2021 RallyX Nordic SuperCar Lites championship, and added the Nitrocross NEXT European title in 2022. The following year he won the Nitrocross NEXT World Final, and took two wins from two starts in the RX2e series, while in 2024 he furthered his global pedigree with two wins from two starts in that year's shortened Nitrocross NEXT campaign. This year he has taken two wins in the FC2 class of the RallyX series as well.
Tommi Hallman, Driver for JBX Powered by Team Monaco, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled for this opportunity to join the JBX Team for the FIA Extreme H World Cup! After being the Championship driver in Hydro X Prix for the past two seasons of Extreme E, it has been a dream of mine to join the grid as a competitor and now the dream will come true.
“I’m really looking forward to battling against some of the best drivers on the planet in the unique racing environment that XH and Saudi Arabia offers, I can’t wait!”
Christine GZ has been driving in Extreme E since the beginning, making starts for Xite Energy Racing, Veloce Racing, and Carl Cox Motorsport – with whom she took a podium finish in her last outing at the Hydro X-Prix last year. Outside of Extreme E, she has been a regular in Spanish stage rally and Baja rally competitions, and has worked as a broadcaster in Formula 1 and Formula E.
Christine GZ, Driver for JBX Powered by Team Monaco, said: “I’m thrilled to be back racing in the Extreme E and stepping into the future with Extreme H! Even more excited to do this with JBX; Jenson is someone I’ve always admired, so joining his team makes this adventure even more special!
“I’m ready to get back behind the wheel, learn as quickly as possible the car and give it all on track.”
Ali Russell, Managing Director, Extreme E and the FIA Extreme H World Cup, said: “Having Jenson Button and JBX on the grid from day one has been a huge part of our story, so it’s fantastic to see the team step into the next chapter with the FIA Extreme H World Cup. JBX Powered by Team Monaco combines elite motorsport pedigree with a genuine commitment to our purpose, and with Tommi Hallman and Christine GZ joining the line-up, they bring an exciting mix of experience and emerging talent. Their presence underlines exactly what Extreme H is about, racing at the highest level while pioneering a new, sustainable future for motorsport.”
Racing will begin with a ‘Final Lap’ Extreme E race taking place from Saturday, 4th and Sunday, 5th October 2025, providing an official farewell to the previous championship, before the official start of Extreme H on Thursday, 9th, through to Saturday, 11th October 2025.
Qiddiya City is the world’s first city built entirely for play, where entertainment, sport, and culture converge. The race will take place with the dramatic backdrop of the Tuwaiq Mountains, close to the site which is currently undergoing transformation to become a world-leading motorsport venue.
The FIA Extreme H World Cup will make history as the first international race event to use hydrogen-powered vehicles. Marking a new future for motorsport, defined by cutting-edge technology and bold ambition.
Further details on the event will be revealed over the coming weeks as the event countdown continues at pace.
