Hansen Motorsport Enters FIA Extreme H World Cup

London, 23 September, 2025: Extreme E and the FIA Extreme H World Cup is proud to announce its first team and driver lineup, with Hansen Motorsport’s ‘Team Hansen’ joining the series with Andreas Bakkerud and Catie Munnings as its drivers.
Action will begin with a ‘Final Lap’ Extreme E race taking place from Saturday, 4th and Sunday, 5th October 2025, providing an official farewell to the previous championship, before the official start of Extreme H on Thursday, 9th, through to Saturday, 11th October 2025.
Hansen Motorsport has a long, storied history in rallycross, with team founders Kenneth and Susann Hansen legends in the discipline. Kenneth is a 14-time European Rallycross champion, while Susann won the 1994 ERA European Cup in the Group N class. It later won the Teams' championship in the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship, and took Timmy Hansen to the Drivers' crown in 2019, a season in which it took Teams' honors again – a feat it repeated once more in 2021.
In 2022 the team became the first in rallycross to reach carbon neutral status and continues to hold FIA 3-star Environmental Accreditation and ISO 14001 certification. It is also a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Sports for Climate Action initiative, and of Hydrogen Sweden – a network of over 120 Swedish companies working together to develop hydrogen technologies – making Extreme H the ideal next step for the organisation.
Timmy Hansen, Team Hansen Team Principal, said: “It’s a special moment for me to step into the role of Team Principal for Team Hansen. For us motorsport has always been a family effort, and to now take on a new role after everything I’ve learned from my mum Susann and my dad Kenneth feels like an exciting challenge.
“I’m super happy to have Andreas Bakkerud and Catie Munnings as our drivers. Catie and I have built a great dynamic as team-mates over the years, and with Andreas I have shared so many battles and memories, and I know first-hand how hard he is to beat. The respect and trust that comes with the history we all have will be a huge strength as we take on this new challenge in Extreme H. I hope we can give them a great car so that they feel confident to drive fast.”
Bakkerud has been a long-time rival of the team, and his inclusion in Hansen’s driver lineup for Extreme H marks the first time both sides have collaborated.
The Norwegian driver is a two-time European Rallycross champion in the S1600 category and the 2021 Supercar class champion, has 12 Extreme E starts to his name with JBXE, taking a best result of fifth twice at the Island X Prix in Season 3.
Andreas Bakkerud, Driver for Team Hansen, said: “I don’t think anyone saw this coming – even I’m still in shock! From fighting each other for world titles over the years, and going head-to-head in one of the biggest rivalries in rallycross, to suddenly working together? That’s a big thing to say the least.
“It goes even deeper than joining Team Hansen, because Timmy [Hansen] is going to be my Team Principal. It can go both ways, but I’m also keen to learn from the team and understand them. We have taken this opportunity to fight for a title together, and I’m going to put everything into doing my job next to Catie [Munnings] while racing for the Hansens. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to saying that!”
Munnings, meanwhile, has firmly established herself as one of the world’s top female driving talents. She was the 2016 FIA European Rally Championship Ladies' Trophy winner and – alongside Timmy Hansen – broke Rosberg X Racing's stranglehold on Season 1 of Extreme E with victory in the Arctic X Prix in Greenland with Andretti. She secured a further eight podiums across four seasons of Extreme E racing.
In recent years Munnings has broadened her horizons, competing in the E1 Series for electric boats, taking three podiums from five starts in the series' inaugural campaign.
Catie Munnings, Driver for Team Hansen, said: “I’m very excited to be joining Team Hansen. They’ve been like a family to me for years and some of my best mentors in motorsport, so to now be racing for them is like a full circle moment.
“I know that every team member, from the mechanics to the spotters to the media team, is the best in the business, and I have full trust that we will be able to perform at our very best with the team around us. Working with Timmy [Hansen] as Team Principal will be new, but he knows the sport like no other and will lead us to our full potential. I’m very excited to be paired up with the crazy Andreas – I’m sure we will have a lot of fun together!”
James Taylor, Chief Championship Officer, Extreme E and Extreme H, said: “The Hansen name is iconic in our sport, so to have a full Team Hansen entry into Extreme E and Extreme H led by Kenneth and Susann is very special. It is the result of years of hard work by our Extreme E team, so we are absolutely delighted that they have joined the series.
“Andreas and Catie are two of our top drivers, so we expect to see them competing for victory in Qiddiya in October.”
Qiddiya City is the world’s first city built entirely for play, where entertainment, sport, and culture converge. The race will take place with the dramatic backdrop of the Tuwaiq Mountains, close to the site which is currently undergoing transformation to become a world-leading motorsport venue.
The FIA Extreme H World Cup Presented by PIF will make history as the first international race event to use hydrogen-powered vehicles. Marking a new future for motorsport, defined by cutting-edge technology and bold ambition.
Further details on the event will be revealed over the coming weeks as the event countdown continues at pace.
