Extreme H and EY Foundation Continue Employability Programme

London, 22 April, 2025: Extreme H, the purpose driven motorsport championship, has renewed its collaboration with the EY Foundation to deliver a pioneering initiative aimed at supporting young people from low-income backgrounds, to access careers within technology.

In April 2025, the hydrogen racing series, which was formerly known as Extreme E, continued its support of the EY Foundation and its Tech Futures programme, offering 16–17-year-olds who are eligible for free school meals a two-week blend of paid employability skills training, mentoring and hands-on work experience.

Participants took part in a range of engaging workshops designed to build business and communication skills, while gaining valuable insights into careers in sport, sustainability and technology. As part of their work experience, students joined the Extreme H team at their London HQ in Hammersmith to immerse themselves in the inner workings of an innovation-focused motorsport championship.

One of the programme highlights included a group challenge to develop an onsite fan activation aimed at educating fans about sustainable technology. The students pitched their ideas to senior staff in a “Dragons’ Den” style session, receiving feedback and career inspiration from the team behind one of motorsport’s most disruptive platforms.

The championship’s involvement doesn’t end with the programme. Extreme H staff have volunteered as mentors to continue supporting the participants with monthly guidance sessions over the next six months, helping them navigate their next steps into further education or employment in technology industries.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme H, said: “As a championship built on future-thinking, it’s hugely rewarding to partner again with the EY Foundation to inspire and support the next generation of talent through the Tech Futures programme.

“The ideas, questions and passion these young people bring to discussions on climate, tech and inclusion are remarkable. We’re proud to play a small part in opening doors and inspiring careers in sustainable innovation, and we look forward to supporting them long after the programme ends.”

The EY Foundation is an independent UK charity, with the ambition to enable all young people on Free School Meals to have an employment and earnings potential that is equitable to other young people in the UK. Since 2014, the EY Foundation has supported over 24,000 young people who face significant barriers to employment.

Lynne Peabody, CEO of EY Foundation, said: “It’s been fantastic to collaborate with Extreme H on the Tech Futures programme. This year we’ve supported more young people from low-income backgrounds to gain first-hand insight into a career in technology, which is seeking to attract and retain diverse talent. I’m thrilled to be working with Extreme H to drive social mobility within such an exciting and fast-growing sector of the economy.”

Extreme H, which will get underway later this year, will be the world’s first hydrogen powered motorsport series. This shift toward clean energy technology will demonstrate how hydrogen can redefine motorsport, on and off the racecourse, pushing boundaries for sustainability in the automotive and energy industries.
